Pension Application

DAVIS, William (Mary). W.284; BLWt-333-60-55

17 Sept. 1832. Logan Co., Va. William Davis of said county, aged 85, declares he enlisted previous to the landing of Gen. Gage at Boston and served in the company of Capt. Maddison in the 9th Virginia Regiment then commanded by Col. Davis. He joined the main army commanded by Gen. Wayne and Morgan at Chesterfield Court House, Va., and marched to Williamsburg. Shortly after Capt. Maddison was dismissed and a Capt. Fields appointed to command the company. He continued in this company for the three years of his enlistment and was discharged at Winchester.

Shortly after, he was drafted for eighteen months and served in the regiment of Col. Gaskins under Gen. Morgan, was with the army at the skirmish in the Piscataway Swamps and at the battle of Bunker Hill. After his eighteen months expired he again enlisted under Col. Gaskins until the conclusion of the war at the siege of York where he served under Gen. Wayne.

17 Sept. 1832. Logan Co., Va. 1.William (X) Davis of said county gives power of attorney to secure pension.

21 June 1853. Logan Co., Va. Mary Davis of said county, aged 60, declares she is the widow of William Davis who was a private in the company of Capt. Lamb in the Revolutionary War. She was married in Floyd Co., Ky., 25 March 1819 by Reuben Giddins, a justice of the peace. Her name was Mary Taylor. Her husband died in Logan County 23 May 1842.

2 Oct. 1856. Pike Co., Ky. Mary Davis of Logan Co., Va., aged 63, applies for bounty land.

Warrant 12083 for 100 acres for the service of William Davis, private in the Virginia line, was issued 22 Oct. 1791 to Jacob Clingman, assignee.

William Davis of Logan Co., Va., private in the regiment of Col. Davis in the Virginia line for two years, was placed on the Virginia pension roll at $80 per annum under the Act of 1832. Certificate 12784 was issued 23 May 1833.

Mary Davis, widow of William Davis, private under Col. Davis in the Virginia line, was placed on the Wheeling, Va., pension roll at $80 per annum. Certificate 2024 under the Act of 1853 was issued 19 Sept. 1853. Bounty land warrant 333 for 60 acres was issued 10 Jan. 1856.
